The Potential Impact of an Organized Veteran Vote

There are a lot of advocacy groups in West Virginia, but few pack the potential punch that veterans do.  When you consider that several key races around West Virginia were won by a few hundred votes, a coordinated initiative to harness the power of the veteran vote is clear.  Veterans have a higher participation rate than the average voter, and statistically, they tend to lean conservative.  Additionally, veterans outnumber many of the groups that have typically been catered to for get-out-the- vote campaigns, including teachers’ unions, and labor unions.  An organized effort to bring the veteran block together to focus on issues relevant to conservatives and Republicans could pay huge dividends during state elections.  Check out the chart and data below to see the percentage of veterans in the registered voter population by county.
